When I first started thinking about this event, I wasn’t actually thinking about a race. I was thinking about community.

Community is often defined as a group of people connected by a shared location, but I think it’s much more than that. Community is a feeling of belonging, supporting one another, and creating memories together.

At BTTC, our goal has always been to create a place where people can connect, grow, and enjoy spending time together—whether that’s through fitness, tennis, or simply having fun with friends.

The Fairhaven Amazing Race felt like a natural extension of that mission.

My hope is that this event strengthens connections not only within BTTC but throughout the broader Fairhaven community. Local businesses, public spaces, and community landmarks become part of the adventure, giving participants a chance to experience Fairhaven in a new way while sharing an afternoon of teamwork, laughter, and exploration.

So Why an Amazing Race?
First of all, I think most of us have watched the show at some point and thought, “That would be fun.” We’re excited to bring a version of that adventure right here to one of Bellingham’s hidden gems: Fairhaven.

What excites me most is that this isn’t a typical fitness event. Yes, there will be movement. Yes, there will be challenges. But there will also be teamwork, problem-solving, clues to decipher, photo missions, and plenty of unexpected moments along the way. Success won’t just come from being the fastest team—it will come from working together.

The event also reflects many of the things we value most at BTTC: health, wellness, community, adventure, and fun.

My biggest hope is simple: that people leave with great stories to tell. If teams finish the race smiling, feeling more connected to each other, and excited to come back next year, then we’ll know we’ve accomplished exactly what we set out to do.

Whether you’re a longtime BTTC member or someone looking for a unique way to spend a Saturday afternoon, we hope you’ll join us for the first-ever Fairhaven Amazing Race on Saturday, August 29th!
