We are growing our team! Over the next few months, you’ll be seeing some new faces on the courts and in the club. Please help us welcome these new team members into our community!

General Manager: Kyle Kaltenfeldt

I am incredibly excited to join the Bellingham Training & Tennis Club team! I moved to Bellingham in 2017 to attend Western Washington University, where I graduated in 2021, and I’ve proudly called Bellingham home ever since.

Over the past several years, I’ve had the opportunity to lead recreation programs, manage facilities, and work alongside amazing teams. Those experiences have reinforced my passion for creating spaces where people feel welcome, connected, and excited to be.

As someone who has been involved in sports my entire life and who still spends much of my free time playing and coaching, I know firsthand the impact recreation, sports, and fitness can have. Whether someone is chasing a personal fitness goal, learning a new sport, or simply looking for a place to spend time with family and friends, I believe great recreation facilities help build stronger communities.

What excites me most about joining Bellingham Training & Tennis Club is the opportunity to serve a community that already has such a strong reputation. I’m looking forward to getting to know our members and staff, building meaningful relationships, and helping further BTTC’s mission of helping people achieve the fitness they want in the place they love.

Outside of work, you’ll usually find me playing indoor or outdoor soccer, coaching and practicing gymnastics, watching auto racing, or spending time with my husband, Colton, and our dog, Walter.
Tennis Director: Luke Rencher
Tennis has been in my blood since before I ever picked up a racket, as my grandfather was the Oregon State high school tennis champion. I’m excited to bring that lifelong passion for the game to Bellingham Training & Tennis Club and to become part of the BTTC community.

I am a former standout tennis player at the University of Oregon, where I earned the Hardest Worker and Most Inspirational team awards. One season, I had one of the best singles records in Oregon’s school history. I have been a Head Pro at the Tiburon Peninsula Club and Tompkins Tennis International, which are both distinguished tennis facilities in California. I have also been the Director of Tennis at two clubs, with the most recent being Evergreen Tennis in Camas, WA.

I coached college tennis at Tabor College in Kansas, where I led the program through some of the most successful seasons in the school’s history and earned the Coach of the Year award. I also have coaching experience on the WTA/ITF tour, helping one of the top female players in America.

I am a follower of the great American coaches Vince Lombardi and John Wooden, and I enjoy giving people the experience of improving and developing their games. I’m looking forward to getting to know BTTC’s members, working with players of all ages and levels, and helping build an exciting future for tennis at the club.

Outside of tennis, I enjoy being outdoors and spending time with my wife and two kids.
Tennis Professional: Cannon Sullivan
I am a lifelong tennis player and have been coaching professionally for the last seven years. I am professionally certified by the RSPA and USTA. I began my coaching journey in Denver, Colorado, at the neighborhood swim and tennis club where I grew up and learned to play. I coached a high school team for three seasons and realized along the way that coaching was my passion! I spent the next few years at The Denver Tennis Park, a nonprofit tennis facility dedicated to youth development through the sport. I was mentored by great coaches and members of the tennis community and experienced the profound impact that tennis can have.

In 2024, I moved to Seattle to work at Tennis Center Sand Point, where I have been a junior programming lead. At TCSP, I also curated communities of adults looking for similar instruction, ran tactics-focused group lessons, and developed “Technical Tuneups”—a lesson series in which I use video analysis to educate players on the fundamental details that produce more efficient and repeatable strokes.

Since moving to the PNW, I have been visiting Bellingham to ride my bike, hike with my dog, Lucca, and appreciate the natural beauty of the area. It feels like a dream to make it my home. From my first visit to Bellingham Training & Tennis Club, I knew it would be a great place for me to take the next step in my career. The opportunity to coach at a club where I can get to know every member, have an impact on the community’s tennis experience, and learn from Matt and the rest of the team is very exciting. I am grateful and pumped to join BTTC, and I can’t wait to bring my passionate, high-quality instruction to this community. See you on the court!

Matthew Iwersen, Tennis Emeritus

Along with our newest additions to our Tennis Team, we want to once again thank Matt for his decades of dedication to helping players grow, enjoy the game, and feel at home at BTTC.

As some of you already know, Matthew Iwersen transitioned into the role of Tennis Emeritus earlier this year after more than 25 years of leading BTTC’s Tennis Department. With our new Tennis Director now in place, Matt is officially settled into this role—and we want to be clear: Matt isn’t going anywhere.

He’ll continue offering exceptional instruction on the court, guidance to our Tennis Director and team, and the encouragement members have come to know and appreciate. We’re deeply grateful for all he has given—and continues to give—to our club.
