True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost. ~ Arthur Ashe

This month “Serve First” is the core value of the month. We are a place to play tennis, get fit, and enjoy some social time with like-minded people. We are lucky.

As a business, our job is to make sure that we can provide the best service for you to achieve your goals and make the best use of your membership.

Throughout the years there have been many improvements. I believe anyone that has been a member for a long period of time can truthfully say that this club is invested in serving the members. Thankfully Doug loves tennis and Robin is always trying to find ways to make the fitness part of the club relevant, up-to-date, and appropriate to the membership.

Just running the club is not the only thing that the Robertson’s have done. Throughout the years BTTC has also strived to contribute back to the community. Here are just some of the programs that we all have supported:
• Sponsoring the Jingle Bell Run (Arthritis Foundation)
• October Warm Coat Drive
• The Giving Tree
• High School Tennis Scholarships (1-Year).
• High School State Qualifier Scholarship (5-month)
• Free High School Leagues throughout the year (BTTC & the USTA grants allow this to be free)
• Live Gratefully Week (August)
• Sweat 24 (remember that one? – the 24 hour team fundraiser for the Food Bank and Lighthouse Mission – we raised about $15,000 for those groups)
• Sponsorships for many groups including Fairhaven Association, Whatcom Women in Business, Skagit Symphony, and more.
I know there is more than mentioned and more to come. The message is that BTTC stands for more than just a place to workout. So when you let people know you belong to BTTC you are letting them know you are going to a place that is also looking out to make Bellingham a better place.

Other tidbits.
• Gameseeker Rules – When you book “Gameseeker” it means you are looking for ANY other Member to play with you. This is why it is incredibly important to use the Gameseeker at your playing level: “Gameseeker 3.0, Gameseeker 3.5, Gameseeker 4.0”. Gameseeker courts are cancelled if they are not filled with a person’s name by 48 hours prior to play time. If you have any problems book a Gameseeker reservation at the correct playin level, please call the front desk for help.
• High School Scholarship applications are now open and available. To apply for the scholarship CLICK HERE
• Congratulations to Jena Wahl & Melissa Stratman! They have qualified for the USTA National 18+ Women’s 3.5 Doubles Tournament in San Diego. (April 19-21). Wish them luck when you see them.
Happy Spring to all and remember to look at life ahead and see what you can do to serve others that are less fortunate.
