Who are all these Bellingham kids?
A few weeks ago I had the privilege of watching students from Lynden, Bellingham, Squalicum, Burlington and Sehome compete at the 2A State tennis tournament.
All together there were 12 players from our region competing, and winning. During the tournament I was talking to a fellow teaching pro from Vancouver. He said people around the tournament were asking “Who are all these Bellingham kids?” and “How are they so good at tennis?”
They were making such an impact at the tournament that people were talking all about it. As a tennis coach swelled with pride as many of these players have been participating in the Junior Elite Tennis Team (JETT) program at the club.
They have been putting in the hard work day after day, month after month to get the opportunity to compete at the highest level. Seeing their success makes me excited for the future of our Junior Program and tennis in Whatcom County.
Everyone who traveled to the state tournament competed hard. But a big congratulations is in order for the following players:
- Zach Chai – State Champion – Boys Singles
- Whittaker Gresham & Calvin Kraynak – State Champions – Boys Doubles
- Ella Morrow & Kira Carlson – 2nd Place – Girls Doubles
- GiGi Searle & Macey Holmes – 4th Place – Girls Doubles
- Sehome Boys Tennis – Overall Team State Champions
Special shout out to Tom Sloane – BTTC member and coach for the Sehome team.
Cheers,
