If your knees, hips, or joints have ever filed an official complaint after a workout, you’re not alone. As we get older (and wiser), high-impact exercise can feel a little less appealing — but staying active is more important than ever. The good news? Low-impact doesn’t have to mean low intensity.
At Bellingham Training & Tennis Club, we’re all about helping you move better, feel stronger, and stay injury-free. Two of our most popular low-impact workouts — Ride and TRX — deliver incredible results without the pounding on your joints. Whether you’re cross-training for tennis, training for life, or just trying to find your fitness groove again, these classes will get your heart pumping and your body thanking you.
Ride: Your Happy Place on a Bike
Let’s be honest — the idea of a spin class can sound… intimidating. Dim lights, loud music, and people pedaling like they’re in the Tour de France. But here’s the truth: Ride at BTTC isn’t about competition — it’s about community.
Our certified instructors lead you through motivating, music-driven workouts that are equal parts cardio, strength, and fun. You control your resistance the whole time, so your Ride can be as mellow or as powerful as you want it to be.
Why You’ll Love It:
- Low-impact, high-reward. Indoor cycling is easy on the joints but tough on calories — burning up to 400–700 in a single class.
- All levels welcome. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned cyclist, our instructors help you find your rhythm (and your seat height).
- Full-body benefits. Ride improves cardiovascular endurance, leg strength, and mental stamina — without ever leaving the club.
- Rain? No problem. When the PNW weather turns to “liquid sunshine,” Ride keeps you active and social indoors.
Classes are held in our dedicated RIDE Studio, featuring 15 Keiser M3i bikes with dual Toe Cage/SPD pedals and performance-tracking displays. Just bring water, wear comfy clothes, and arrive 10 minutes early if you’re new — our team will help you get set up (and yes, we’ve got gel seat covers for extra comfort).
TRX: Strength, Balance, and Core Power — All in One
If you’ve ever seen people suspended from straps doing push-ups, lunges, and planks and thought, “That looks intense,” — you’re right. But it’s also one of the most effective and joint-friendly workouts you can do.
TRX (short for “Total Resistance Exercise”) uses your body weight and gravity to build functional strength — the kind that helps you move better in everyday life. Every exercise activates multiple muscle groups at once, giving you a full-body workout that strengthens your core, improves balance, and enhances mobility.
Why It Works:
- Low-impact, high payoff. You control your angle and intensity, making it gentle on joints but challenging for muscles.
- Functional strength. Builds real-life power and stability — perfect for tennis players, hikers, and anyone who wants to feel more capable.
- All fitness levels welcome. Whether you’re new to exercise or an experienced athlete, TRX meets you where you are.
Fun fact: TRX was invented by a Navy SEAL looking for a way to stay fit while deployed. If it can work in a ship cabin, it can definitely work in a gym in Bellingham.
Why Low-Impact Doesn’t Mean “Easy”
Ride and TRX are both low-impact, but don’t be fooled — they’ll challenge your endurance, coordination, and strength in the best way possible. The difference is, you’ll build muscle and cardiovascular fitness without the wear and tear on your joints.
They’re also fantastic options for cross-training, recovery days, or anyone who wants to stay active for the long haul. You’ll walk out feeling accomplished — not achy.
Move Better, Feel Better, Stay Active
Whether you’re looking for a workout that’s kind to your knees, a fun way to mix up your routine, or a community that cheers you on every step (or pedal) of the way — BTTC’s Ride and TRX classes have you covered.
Join us for a class and see why they’re some of Bellingham’s favorite low-impact workouts for active adults.
Let’s keep moving — strong, steady, and smart.
